WhatsApp, which began in 2009, quickly became the global leader in the Messenger market. Facebook (now Meta) acquired WhatsApp in 2014, but it has consistently adhered to its primary business motto: providing a simple, secure, and reliable messaging service. More than two billion users globally use WhatsApp for text messaging, voice and video calls, and sending multimedia messages. This is a brief overview of some of the new features and changes WhatsApp has added in 2024. The most striking one is the ability to merge several group chats under the Communities option. Also, in the voice and video calling department, WhatsApp has increased group calling options to up to 32 people per call and offered new tools to manage calls. Furthermore, the new Message Reactions feature allows users to react to messages with emojis, which helps them react and respond quickly. The latest version of WhatsApp now features multi-device functionality, enabling users to log in to their accounts from multiple devices, even when their phone is off.
